Chopin & Brahms

After their much-noticed debut album “Life is Strange” one could think that the Austrian jazz ensemble WHAT AM I HERE FOR has abandoned itself to idleness. Far from it! Mathias Mayrbäurl (saxophone) and Josef Wagner (bass) made the new adaption of Chopin’s piano Sonata No. 3 and selected songs from Brahms their aim. The result is a new program without crossover-platitudes but with a good sense of improvisation, which shines a new light on the works of the old masters – not with candlelight, but electronically amplified. Romantic? - Just a bit. Exciting? Defintely. The quartet is completed by Michiru Ripplinger (guitar) and Michael Leibetseder (drums).
